Kia makes some great cars, but they don't have much on offer for the enthusiast. Sister company Hyundai has the Veloster Turbo and the Genesis twins, while Kia's only sporty offering is the Optima Turbo. And that doesn't really count.
But there's a chance this paradigm might change when Detroit rolls around. Kia has just released a teaser image for a new concept car it's calling the GT4 Stinger. The bright orange mugshot here doesn't give us much information about the car; the real news is in the press release.

Kia says this concept is equipped with a 315-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, and all that power is being routed to the rear wheels. That represents a 41-pony boost over the 274-hp 2.0T engines currently found in the Genesis Coupe and the Optima Turbo.
Unfortunately, the rest of the Stinger is pure fantasy. Kia says the car features 20-inch alloys, a carbon-fiber front splitter, and the grille surround glows with an eerie white light thanks to a set of LEDs. It's a fantasy, though, that shows Kia is thinking about a sportier side, and that's a good thing.

Next year Lamborghini will be celebrating its 50th anniversary, a milestone that Mark Hostler, a transportation design student at Staffordshire University, is recognizing with his Lamborghini Ferruccio concept. The sloping front end and extra wide rear were inspired by the Countach, while the rounded shapes of the front and rear wings are a nod to the Miura’s curved lines. The sharp nose and aggressively styled air intakes throughout the body and roof are modeled after Lamborghini’s current “stealth fighter” design template. Though the Ferruccio concept is a supercar, it makes concessions to environmentalism by using a V12 engine that’s relatively smaller at 5.0 liters, with its valves actuated by pneumatic solenoids controlled by a computer. The Aerius concept is a high performance electric vehicle for 2025. The concept combines the performance of race cars with emerging sustainable energy sources and materials. It’s driven by Michelin Active in-wheel electric motors at the rear and on-board electric motors in the front for instantaneous acceleration and agile handling. The aerodynamic body to reduces energy consumption and solar panels re-charge the carbon nanotube super-capacitors to extend its range while emitting zero carbons. Time travel will cost extra.
The form of the vehicle is heavily influenced by formula 1 race cars. The strong wheel arches hints at the four-wheel drive of the vehicle giving it a strongly planted road stance. The elegant clean glasshouse that runs the length of the vehicle represents the clean purity of the vehicle meaning zero emissions and the diffuser side blade links the whole aesthetic back to race cars.

Allows the car to be driven for 70 miles emission free via charged batteries, before petrol engine is required to power generator. 3-performance modes: Economy (low bhp), Normal (medium bhp), and Performance (high bhp). ‘Performance Mode’ utilises both the petrol engine and electric generator, combined for ultimate track-day power.

This car right here goes by the name “AMV-R”, an acronym which stands for Automotive Visual Racing. And it’s fantastic. Your eyeballs are going to explode when you peek at the images in this post’s gallery, if you haven’t already. But then again, if you had already, you wouldn’t have eyes. Designer Alexei Mikhailov presents a spectacular vision that mixes Italian and German styling with an “exotic” and precise surface flow.
Alas, this car is but a vision. It is neither a prototype nor is it planned for production. But we can LOOK at it, can’t we? Yes we can. What a shell it is, yes? What a fantastic vision. Theoretically this lightning bolt of an auto would have a highly efficient twin turbo V 10 engine, generating 850hp. That means it’d rock. It’d rock so hard.
2017 Alfa Romeo Executive Fastback Saloon by Jacob Mcmurry
This car is a wild missile for heck. It’s the 2017 Alfa Romeo Executive Fastback Saloon. What a mouthful! What an eyeful, you’re about to witness. Designer Jacob McMurry’s whipped up this magic machine to compliment the Alfa Romeo 8c Competizione in Alfa Romeo’s return to the North American market.* In this project, inspiration’s drawn from Carnevale di Venezia, aka the Carnival of Venice.
This project was done before the Fiat/Chrysler partnership.All glass roof, smart glass panels. These smart panels have the ability to go all opaque or transparent. Helpful if you’re Batman, or if you’re Dexter Morgan. Lines drawn directly from Italy, drawing inspiration again from the 2900B Type 35 racers of the 1930′s.
Power plant: Diesel V8 with rear wheel drive, optional bio-diesel conversion.
Axiom by Amar Vaya
Beauty in Audi
A fabulous design comes to my internet doorstep today, Amar Vaya, a designer who takes extra philosophical time in designing a car, one called Axiom in this case. Branded with the Audi name, the Axiom is an exercise in emphasizing the idea of “beauty” within the tradition of Audi’s idiom. What’s that mean? It means it’s gotta look like an Audi. People HAVE to know that it’s an Audi when they first peek at it. But right before or right after that, their next thought has to be “wow, that is quite the sight to behold, wouldn’t you say so? Yes, yes I would.”
Has Amar Vaya done it? Let’s take a look here. Vaya notes that success and progress through technology are tenants of the Audi brand, indeed that is one of the main driving forces behind them. Through this, Vaya promotes the Axiom as hope through progress, a freedom or refuge from an uncertain world as you sit inside a shell of futurism.
The second area where Vaya explores beauty through Audi is time. Through what Vaya describes as the “history, wisdom, knowledge, and legacy” of Audi especially through their design and technological advances, the Axiom describes all of this aesthetically.

Ferrari Enzo by Peter Simon
Take a peek at this lovely sharp sports car with the Ferrari name slapped on it, inspired by the form language of Credo E-Bone, another design by the same designer that’s no less that a city bus. That, and the bones of animals and humans are where this comes from. This designer takes the Italian dynamic and organic, soft shapes that are closest to nature. Inside and out, this vehicle is meant to radiate energy and power.
This is the Ferrari Enzo, a car that never ever stops, but appears to sit in time even as it flies down the highway. The one sentence the designer hopes to let loose as much as possible is “My car has always more power than yours.” Time for crushing of all road opposition! Road warrior!
Also I must mention that the following images come from a folder titled “renders.” Although from that I am lead to believe that they are rendered images from a 3D program, my brain just can’t fathom it. These are too good.
Taihoo 2046 Concept Car by Hao Huang
The Taihoo 2046 Concept Car is intended for the 18-35 year old young couples in China, apparently the big spenders and lovers of all things flashy! Taihoo`s styling is inspired by the Taihu Stone, which is also a porous stone. Essentially combining the porous and transparent features into a super sexy design, has worked out pretty well for this car. One of the super cool features is that the interior design can easily transform to a camping tent and the windows are slightly curved so that you can project movies onto it. What fun!
